Seeking God's Heart

As I continue on my journey of building a deeper relationship with God, I’ve come to the realization that a big part of that process is seeking God‘s heart.

When I think of God’s heart, I think of all the times I could have felt his wrath for my disobedience and instead, He gave me love, grace and forgiveness.

”You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” ~ Romans 5:6-8

While we were still sinners.

Not after we repented.

Not after we started seeking Him and doing His will.

Not after we became deserving of His love.

But while we were still sinners.

Reading this verse overwhelms me with gratitude and gives me a new appreciation for God‘s love for me. And although I know I could never repay Him for all He does for me, it makes me want to pursue and seek His heart even more.

But how do you do that?

When we pursue the heart of our romantic love interests, we try to do all we can to make them happy. So why not do the same with God?

He said we should ask and we will receive, and just like I always ask and always receive, I want to now shift the focus away from me, and focus more on what He wants and do more of that.

Just like to understand what makes our romantic love interests happy, we try to get to know them better, I’ve been studying and meditating on the Word and talking to God more often to get to know Him better.

Some questions I like to reflect on while studying the Word are:

  • What is God‘s commandment to us in this passage?

  • What made God happy in this passage?

  • How can I apply what I’ve learned through this passage in my day-day life to keep God happy?

If you’ve been working on seeking God’s heart, I hope you find these questions helpful in your study of the Word. I also encourage you to reflect on this passage.
