Climb and Maintain

Climb and maintain: This has been my motto during this amazing season of growth and transition.

Too often I've skipped past the miracles in my life after they've happened to ponder over "what's next?" instead of actually taking the time to take in the fact that something I've prayed for, for a long time, has just happened!

It's crazy how the devil can steal our joy in the moment by creating anxiety over "what's next?" so I'm reclaiming my joy by basking in this season the Lord has made possible!

We always hear stories of people making it overnight and going from 0 to 6 figures in a short amount of time and as much as we can covet that success, I had to be real with myself that I couldn't handle such a jump because of the drastic changes it would involve in my life (hence the Waiting on God is Not Stagnant for blog post).

You see, too often we see the financial growth and success and ignore what it must come with emotionally, environmentally, and mentally.

Peace in my life, with myself and within myself has been a priority for me and I've realized how much being rooted in God and His Word impacts my ability to have that peace. So during this amazing season that I've been experiencing, maintaining my peace in the midst of the climb has been a huge priority.

Climb and maintain.

I first heard that phrase from a Tyler Perry sermon and it stuck with me. Sometimes we're so focused on climbing, that we do not pay attention to our ability to keep up with the altitude we're reaching as we climb.

The first level I climbed to was launching my journal and getting a couple of sales. I was overwhelmed (happily) with the number of sales and fulfilment I had to do and it was a great awakening that if I was to climb higher, I would have to pace myself so that I didn't lose myself in the business and allowed it to become an idol yet again.

So what does maintaining as you climb look like?

It's noting any shift in stability (that matters to you) as you climb and pausing to make adjustments before climbing any further.

For me what that looked like was noting that although I was happy with the growth of my business and the sales that were coming in, I didn't like that:

  • I was going to bed each night at 3 am when I had to be up early in the morning for work.

  • I was rushing my time with God and wasn't able to spend unrushed time with Him and studying His Word.

  • I was feeling overwhelmed because I wasn't taking the time to adjust my routine to my new lifestyle and find a new balanced "normal"

  • I was no longer able to serve and show up for my audiences in a genuine unrushed way

So climbing and maintaining for me in this season meant pausing the climb here to maintain by readjusting my schedule and time to make sure I'm getting to bed at a decent time, spending adequate time in God's presence and studying His word and overall adjusting my routine to the new altitude I've reached before trying to climb again.

Why am I sharing this?

Because I want to remind you that it's not always about the climb. The maintaining part is important too.

So... climb and maintain.

P.S. if you'd like to watch Tyler Perry's sermon about climbing and maintaining, you can watch it here. He has a very inspirational story about his success and this sermon was everything!
