5 Bible Verses for Times of Transition

Hey loves!

It's been a minute and as some of you may know, this has been a time of transition for me and I wanted to take the time to figure out my new "normal" and regain some clarity on what I really want to do.

Change of any kind can be a little daunting because you don’t know what’s going to happen and there are a lot of uncertainties about what the future holds that can be overwhelming. This is why I wanted to share 5 Bible Verses that I’ve been meditating on during this time of transition that have been really helpful.

1. Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

This verse is what I imagine Jesus saying to me when he sees me stressing about the “what ifs...” and the “how the heck am I going to make this happen?” and the “Lord why does this keep happening?”

I read this and I’m literally like “Why are you worried Kemi?” You know God has a plan and everything will ultimately work out according to His will. So stressing, worrying, and being anxious about the uncertainties of tomorrow is not going to do anything but prevent you from living in the moment and enjoying the blessings in this current season of your life.

Every time I read this verse and meditate on it, it brings me instant peace especially during this transition period, because it is the much needed reminder that there is literally nothing to be afraid of because God is with me through every moment, season, and second of my life.

2. Deuteronomy 31:8 “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Similarly to the previous verse, this verse is another reminder that no matter what lays ahead, there’s nothing to worry about because God has already gone ahead of us and created a path for us. It’s also another reminder that no matter what we’re going through, God is always with us.

When I read and meditate on this verse, I think of going through life with a big shield around me, with God walking ahead of me and with me as I enter/navigate/go through each and every season of my life.

In times of transition or uncertainty, one of the factors that makes our anxiety about the unknown so high is wondering what’s going to happen and hoping we’re prepared/preparing for it. Visualizing God’s shield around me when I read this verse and His presence around me as I walk towards an uncertain future is reassuring because it reminds me that I’m fully protected by God and equipped through His presence.

3. Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight.”

I know I always say Philippians 4:13 is my favorite verse but Proverbs 3:5-6 has become a top favorite of mine because every single time I read it, I literally exhale out anxiety and breathe in peace knowing that it’s ok if I don’t understand what’s going on right now because I’m not meant to lean on my own understanding but on God’s.

This verse is also a great reminder that if I submit my plans, my dreams, my fears and my worries to God, He will make my paths straight and give me the direction I seek. Speaking of seeking direction, this next verse is everything!!!

4. Psalm 32:8 “ I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.”

This is all I want, for God to tell me where I should go because I don’t want to live for this world. I want to make sure that the desires of my heart are in alignment with what God has planned for me and this verse is a promise from God that I’ve been holding onto throughout this season of transitioning.

5. Philippians 4:6-8 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

The first part of the verse “Do not be anxious about anything” automatically provides reassurance for me that there is nothing on this earth that we should be anxious about. I know that can sound too idealistic because we all have stressors in our lives but the next part of the verse lets us know what to do when we do encounter situations where we do experience anxiety: "in every situation by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God".

Overall, my season of transitioning has brought me closer to God as it has reminded me that it’s not up me, but it’s up to God. It’s not according to my timing but His. And anytime I get anxious or stressed out, just like this verse says I pray and give my worries to God.

I literally am amazed at how peaceful one can feel in the midst of chaos once you give all your worries to God, once you let go of the need to have it all figured out and instead submit it all to God.

If you’re currently going through a season of transition, don’t under estimate the power of your prayers through this season. Pray without ceasing, it doesn’t matter where you are, you can always cast your worries to the Lord, speak to Him and let Him know how you feel.
